How to get your discounted student rate:
All Athletics Ireland Clane AC registrations require approval by our club registrar first, before you can proceed to payment on the Athletics Ireland registration portal.

After you have started the 1st part of the registration process on the Athletics Ireland portal, you won't be able to proceed until you email our club registrar on [email protected] to let him know you are eligible for a student discount. This will allow us to notify him that there is a pending Student discount application awaiting approval.

He can review your application and if approved, he can apply the discounted price so you can proceed to final payment.

Note: Athletics Ireland membership runs from 1st January to 31st December regardless of what time of year you join.

Instructions on how to join:

Please read the below information fully before contacting us, as it answers most commonly asked question:

"Why can I not proceed to payment immediately on the Athletics Ireland online portal?"

Adult Running Club registration:
There is never a waiting list for the Adult Running Club.

However, there may be a short waiting period of a few days after you tried to register on the Athletics Ireland portal.

This is because the club registrar needs to approve your online registration.

(All registrations need to be approved. It is a manual process and every registration needs to be cross checked and then digitally 'ticked' off as 'approved', one by one on the online portal)

Once approved, you will receive an automated email from Athletics Ireland advising you that you can continue to payment.

(Remember, our club registrar is a volunteer with a full time job so it might take a few days for them to catch up with registrations)

Once approved and you've completed your registration fully, you can start training at the track at the very next training session.

Juvenile Athletics Club registration:

It is quite common that there *may* be a waiting list in place for the Juvenile club espeically as the year progresses.

Due to the high demand in certain age categories, sometimes Clane AC have to operate a waiting list for new juvenile members in certain age groups - most commonly in the U9s, U10s & U11s age groups.

Our team of volunteer coaches are constantly reviewing the age groups and coach allocation to see if we have more space available.

More volunteer coaches & adult assistants means more available spaces, so
if you have a child on the waiting list, consider assisting us with juvenile training!
(Subject to Garda Vetting & completing a Child Safe Guarding course)

You won't know if there is a waiting list in place when you go to register your child via the Athletics Ireland portal:

https://membership.athleticsireland.ie/

We don't make announcements about it - This is because the waiting list status is constantly changing.

Our club registrar oversees the incoming online registrations and places a registration block on certain age groups once the maximum registration quota for that age group has been met.

This could be a short term period, but depending on the demand, the waiting list could be in place longer.

What if there is no waiting list for your childs age group?
Great!!! Once your registration is approved*, you will receive your automated email from Athletics Ireland notifying you that you can proceed, and you will be able to continue all the way through the online registration process.

*All registrations require approval...so this may take a few days until our volunteer club registrar catches up with the online registrations.

It is a manual process and every registration needs to be cross checked and then digitally 'ticked' off as 'approved' or 'on hold' one by one on the Athletics Ireland online portal.

Once full payment is made this means registration has been successful. Full registered juvenile members or adult running club members can train with the club at the next training session.

What if there is a waiting list?
Typically, if your registration is for a juvenile member, and has not been approved after a week or so, this usually indicates that there is a 'hold' on that registration and this registration has been placed on the 'waiting list'.

You will not be able to proceed with your registration, and registration will be 'paused' until a space becomes available.

We cannot say how long this may take.

However to guarantee a quicker turn around, consider volunteering as a Juvenile Coach or Coaches assistant at the club for your childs age group, so that more spaces can be freed up.

(Subject to Garda Vetting & completing a Child Safe Guarding course)

The Athletics Ireland online portal explained further:
Although you will be registering through the Athletics Ireland registration portal initially, please be reassured, if there is no place available (usually only for the juvenlie section) you won't be able to continue with the full registration, and there will be no payment required at this step.

This is only phase one of the process to register your interest.
All registrations need approval first by our volunteer club registrar.

When registering on the Athletics Ireland portal, you will need to click both the federation fee option and the Clane AC membership fee option.

Once this initial part of your registration is submitted and logged on the Athletics Ireland online system, our club registrar will be able to go into clubs Athletics Ireland account to review all the "pending" online applications so they can check for availability with our coaches.

During this waiting period, your online registration will be "on hold" and you won't be able to proceed with your online Athletics Ireland until your registration has been approved.

This might only take a few days or a few weeks, but please be aware that it can take much, much longer especially if these popular age groups are full to capacity and nobody leaves... or if we lose one of our volunteer Juvenile coaches to other life commitments.

Your child will be manually placed on our club registrars juvenile waiting list and this list will be reviewed whenever juvenile members leave or new Juvenile coaches come on board.
(This is a hand written list - you will not be sent an email)

If/when there is a place available, our registrar will have to "approve" your pending online Athletics Ireland application and only then will you be able to proceed to the next step to register your child with the club.

Once "approved" by our registrar, you will receive an autogenerated email directly from Athletics Ireland alerting you that you can continue with your registration, and you will be able to move onto the next step to formally register your child/children with the club.
Payment will be required at this next step

Once fully registered with Athletics Ireland, you or your child can start training with the club at the next training session.

I have read and understood the above instructions and I am now ready to register via the Athletics Ireland online portal:

https://membership.athleticsireland.ie/

Athletics Ireland club affiliation:

For Athletics Ireland/Clane AC registered members
- both Adult & Juvenile:

Being an official member of an Athletics Ireland affiliated club such as Clane Athletic club means you are automatically bound to that specific athletics club as an Athletics Ireland member for a period of 3 years.

In other words, if you register with Clane AC, Athletics Ireland will allocate Clane AC as your designated athletics club for a period of three years, even if you don't actually renew your membership after the 1st or 2nd year after joining.

This rule applies to any Athletics Ireland club you register with in Ireland. You are tied to your chosen club for a period of 3 years.
This rule was put in place by Athletics Ireland to impede larger, competitive clubs from easily poaching high performance athletes from other clubs. It obstructs the practice of "cherry picking" athletes, either juvenile or adult, to enhance the success of their own club.

If you wish to change to another Athletics Ireland affiliated club within 3 years of joining Clane AC, you will need to apply for a club transfer which must be approved at county board level.

For this reason we do not recommend complete beginner runners / Couch to 5km participants join via the Athletics Ireland registration link in case they decide they would not like to continue with the club or running, or because they may want do a different running programme elsewhere with another Athletics Ireland local club within three years.
It eliminates the requirement for having to do formal club transfers.

These club transfer applications are only processed twice yearly by Athletics Ireland. This can be frustrating for people who want to do a different programme with another club, but can't, as they have to wait until their transfer is processed.

Annual Running Club members
  • Make yourself familiar with the Athletics Ireland club affiliation three year rule and club transfer guidelines prior to joining.

  • Adult Athletes must be registered with Athletics Ireland to be eligible to enter any formal/official Athletics Ireland events.
  • Adult Athletes must wear the Clane AC club singlet when representing their club at any Athletics Ireland events. This includes any Athletics Ireland events organised by other Athletic clubs, Kildare Athletics, Leinster Athletics & National championships.
