Clane community sprinted into a new athletics era with the official opening of our new, bespoke athletic track on:
13th December 2019

The official track opening and cutting of the ribbon was performed by Hamish Adams,
the CEO of Athletic Association of Ireland.

Our very first race ever on the track took place, with our winner Eoin O'Connor from Kildare Athletic club clocking a 1 mile time of 4mins 55secs!!!

A really enjoyable evening was had by all, and we would like to thank each and every one of you who turned out to make this special evening so memorable.

Track availability for the public & other community groups:

Our hope for the future is that the track will be available to the public (i.e non club members) at agreed designated times.

It is difficult to establish a workable system in this current Covid 19 climate and will need to review ways of being able to execute this safely and in line with the recommended government guidelines.

We will determine what usage times & conditions that need to be put in place before opening it up for general use.
Once these guidelines are established, a time table for the public will be in operation and we will make an announcement via all our media channels.

Please note however, when the track does become available to the public, usage must be agreed in advance with Clane Athletic club and will be subject to a social membership fee and/or hourly track rate.

Sponsor a name plate on the new track?
Would you like to have your family name or your child’s name permanently displayed at the new track?

For € 260 we will place each name on a plaque next to the new track.

This is a great way to support our track development and to mark your support for the club. This offer is open to members and non-members.

A sample name plate is available to view on request and we are appealing now for those interested to sign up using the relevant form. Clane AC is an approved sports body for tax purposes and if a PAYE individual makes a donation to the club, we as the sports body, can claim the tax relief from Revenue. Hence additional funding will accrue to the club.

For self-assessed individuals/companies they can claim tax relief when filing their income tax return

The progress so far.....

Ground work started in November 2018 for our new athletics running track facility. The location of the new facility will be situated in an area of land central to the three schools of Clane (Scoil Bhride, Scoil Padraig and Scoil Mhuire) along the Prosperous road, with main access from Scoil Mhuire secondary school.

On 24th May 2019 we invited the public to come to a 'viewing' of the progress of the track so far. We also held a unique 4-mile road race to help raise awareness and to fund raise to off-set the capital costs of the project. The event was a resounding success!!

We hope to officially open the track in December 2019.

The new facility will consist of a 2G artificial grass rubber/silicon sand fill with shock pad 200m track, and 100m sprinting track, high jump, long jump and throws area, plus an outer perimeter walking track, also with a club house and flood lighting.
